Middle SectionThe Middle section offers an all inclusive curriculum. The primary focus in the Middle section is to develop happy, well adjusted individuals who have the ability to work with others and make good choices in life. The emphasis is on students achieving success in their learning, increasing their independence, taking greater responsibility for their actions and establishing values that will lead to good citizenship in the future. The Middle section incorporates strategies from the Early Years Literacy and Numeracy programs to deliver a comprehensive curriculum designed to improve successful student outcomes in the core domain areas of English and Mathematics. There is a major emphasis in technology across the school. In the Middle section, technology is integrated into all areas of the curriculum, particularly in Literacy and Numeracy. Students are also encouraged, where appropriate, to use the internet to assist with research projects. All classes attend five specialist sessions each week: Art, Library, Healthy Living and Physical Education. Middle section programs are further enhanced by the support and guidance of both the Speech Pathologist and Occupational Therapist. In addition to specialist programs, the Middle section runs various clinics, a swimming program and an activities program including Fun Cooking, Consumer Education, Technology/Drama, Games/Drum Club, Bike Education/Lego animation. Interpersonal skills are taught through the ‘You Can Do It’ program and the Anti-Bullying program, which are designed to enhance the students' relationships with their peers and assist them to work effectively as part of a team. Classes access three-day camps at Blackwood, Phillip Island, Ocean Grove, Safety Beach, Bacchus Marsh and Mt Eliza. These camps provide the opportunity to practice many of the skills that have been implemented in the classroom and specialist programs. |
